Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to make an impact, and to inspire children. I always wanted to become a teacher and through the hardships and triumphs, I did it. Too often adults tell children their dreams are just dreams (whether directly or indirectly) and I truly believe that it is my purpose in this life to do the exact opposite. I became a teacher to encourage the dreamers and celebrate students lives and achievements to help them see that they are deserving of greatness- whatever that may be for them.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience would be developing my interactive and immersive room transformation in a 1st Grade astronomy unit. As the end of unit culminating project I decided my class would be taking a trip to outer space… in the comfort of our own classroom. The students love the unit and what better way to inspire and encourage their continued joy for learning and for science than by letting them explore within the field.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Put it right back in my classroom, resources, and furthering my education. Student need memorable school experiences, and unfortunately, many of those memorable experiences come with big expenses. A student attending a field trip or participating in an activity should never be decided by whether or not they can afford it- so part of the reward would be set for that. I also believe it important that teachers seek opportunities to learn more about ways to improve students lives and achievements.
