Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because of my love for adventure. In this job, each day is so unique. I have a special love for kids and teaching them how to explore in all aspects of learning. For example, I teach an Outdoor Club, Run Club, and a Board Games Club after school. I went to school for Early Childhood Development so I am very passionate about seeing growth.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

There are so many memorable experiences so this is so hard! If I had to choose it would have to be watching students who come into Kindergarten not even knowing their letters and leaving Kindergarten reading books. I have one specific student in mind and if you knew him at the beginning of the year versus the end, you wouldn't believe he was the same kid. He grew in his academics but most importantly in his confidence.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I won $25,000 I would use it as a down payment on a house. I have grown up in Central Oregon my entire life and love it here, but it is very expensive, especially on a teacher's salary. Having a substantial amount to put down on a house would fulfill my dreams and make it possible to live here and teach at my school long term.
