Tasha Hunter

My goal everyday is to make as many students smile as I can. I talk with them, ask their opinions, tell them they matter and are loved.

What is your favorite part of being an educator?

My favorite part of being an educator is helping my students find their love for reading. I tell all my students that everyone who says they hate reading just has not found what they love to read. Once they find that love, their world is full of opportunities.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience.

My most memorable teaching experience comes from a student who had been struggling all year to move up in his reading level. He was so concerned that he would not pass his state test and move on to fourth grade. His test day was coming up and we had been working on strategies for test taking. I told him to relax, take his time, and use his strategies! The day he received his test scores he ran up to me in the hall, hugged me, and said he wouldn’t have been able to pass without my help.

What would you do with the $25,000?

My students are reluctant readers so I would like to set up a recurring field trip every year to a locally owned, small business bookstore where all our students could pick out a book of their choice to keep. Our children would have their own book they will want to read and we’d be supporting a local small business.
