Mel Rainey

Being able to inspire and spark the light of learning visual arts in my students, is what makes me a great teacher.

What is your favorite part of being an educator?

Year after year it is always my favorite seeing the many smiling faces at high school graduation and having the honor of being one of their line leaders to walk them on the field.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience.

My most memorable experience was for two years in a row, when one of my art students worked so hard and became a two year American Vision medal award winner for The Scholastics Arts and Writing awards. I was able to cheer him on as he was honored at Carnegie Hall in New York!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would create an addition to my house for an Art Studio. Over the years it has shifted locations and now it resides in the back corner of my basement. Maybe even put some away for my kids after high school plans. Take the kids to their favorite buffet/ restaurant and maybe take my wife to a dinner and a movie!
