Kim Tuttle

I am willing to meet the needs of my students no matter where they are and teach them more than AP English skills, but critical life skills.

What is your favorite part of being an educator?

My students are the best part of being a teacher! There's nothing better than walking into school and hear them call my name, as they run to greet me before school begins. My high school students become my very own children and I am invested in making sure they all achieve their goals. We're a family and I will do whatever it takes for them to see their success. Hearing them say, "Because of you, I became a teacher" or "I could not have done this without your support" is priceless!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience.

Becoming the 2019 Teacher of the Year for my school district allowed me the opportunity to be in a Volkswagen commercial with my students: "Kimberly and the Jetta." My students were able to learn the production process of how a small commercial takes many hours and they were mesmerized by the technology behind it all. It was also because of this award that I was able to work with teachers from many states, as well as college students aspiring to become teachers and share my passion of teaching.

What would you do with the $25,000?

My husband and I are both high school teachers in a state that ranks at the bottom of the pay. We will have two daughters in college for the 2024-2025 school year and the financial need will be great. Like all teachers, we will make it work, because education is at the utmost priority in our household. Having a daughter majoring in Health Management and a daughter aspiring to be an Elementary School Teacher, we want to ensure our own children are able to achieve all of their dreams.
