Becky Deeg

What makes me a great teacher is I absolutely love my job, I build relationships and make learning fun by adding brain breaks, and dancing!

What is your favorite part of being an educator?

My favorite part of being an educator is working with the students and builiding relationships with them. Each student is unique and has a different learning style. While some might think this is challenging, I love getting to know my students and meet each of their unique needs. I also love to learn about what they like and incorporate that into the Spanish lesson and vocabulary.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience.

I have so many memorable teaching experiences, but one of my favorites was when I was late to class because an IEP meeting ran over. When I got to class, my students already had got class started on their own. Because I established great rapport with my students and a daily routine, my students felt comfortable enough to take over and lead the lesson. I was so proud of them!

What would you do with the $25,000?

First I would probably take a family vacation, as my family of 6 has never been out of the state on vacation yet. I would love to take them to Costa Rica where I studied abroad to experience the rich culture and meet my host families. Then I would use some of the money for classroom supplies. We use a lot of props as a language teacher! Lastly, I would love to donate to my community. I love to give back and it would be fun as a family to head a fundraiser or donate to someone in need.
