Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I believe in the power of education to change lives. Growing up, I saw how a single teacher's belief in a student could shape their future. I wanted to be that person-the one who sees potential where others see obstacles, who pushes students to dream bigger, and who helps them realize they are capable of more than they ever imagined. Every day, I step into my classroom knowing I have the chance to make a difference-not just in test scores, but in lives.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I started teaching Spanish later in my career, unsure of what to expect. But one thing I knew for certain is I believed in my students. I pushed them to see their own potential, to work hard, and to trust that they were capable of great things. Their dedication and resilience amazed me. When the AP exam results came in, I was in shock, I had the highest number of students pass. What started as a challenge became one of the most rewarding moments of my career.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I received a $25,000 reward, I would invest it in both my students and my own growth as an educator. First, I would enhance my classroom with resources that make language learning more engaging, authentic books, interactive technology, and cultural materials that bring Spanish to life beyond textbooks. I would also use part of the reward to create opportunities for my students, such as funding. Lastly, I would invest in my own professional development, to become a better teacher.
