Tell us why you became a teacher

I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. From giving swim lessons at age ten to coaching cheer and eventually leading a classroom, teaching has always brought me joy. I love helping students succeed and discover the drive within themselves to accomplish anything. Teaching is not just a career- it’s a calling. Seeing students develop confidence, embrace challenges, and grow into their potential has made every moment worth it. Inspiring others to believe in themselves is my greatest reward.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Teaching through COVID was one of my most memorable experiences. Despite the unprecedented chaos, I used humor and enthusiasm to keep students engaged, turning virtual lessons into moments of connection. Growth mindset became our survival tool- we embraced challenges, adapted, and persevered. Seeing students push through struggles, laugh, and still learn reminded me why I teach. It was tough, but it proved that resilience, positivity, and a little humor could help us grow through anything.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use the $25,000 to take my six grandchildren on a meaningful trip, creating lasting memories. After losing my daughter to a drunk driver, I kept teaching, proving to myself and my students the power of resilience. Now, as I consider retirement, I want my grandchildren to see that even in loss, we can find joy and experiences that shape us. This trip would be a celebration of love, strength, and new beginnings.
