I have always wanted to be a teacher. In fourth grade, I discovered my joy in helping others as a peer tutor, and I continued tutoring throughout high school. As I grew, I recognized the transformative power of education in overcoming life's challenges. Growing up in poverty, my grandparents taught me that education can change lives. One of my 5th-grade students showed remarkable growth this year. He had little support at home and his behavior issues resulted in minimal support at school. When he arrived in my class, he did not know many letters or sounds, so I begin to work with him. When he learned to spell words in the -at family, he was filled with joy, and his classmates celebrated with him. This moment filled me with pride for his perseverance and the supportive class community I fostered.

For many years, my husband and I have envisioned establishing a group home for children. Throughout our journey, we’ve worked with youth in various capacities and have welcomed children into our home. With the $25,000, we can finally turn our dream into a reality.
