I was a geek and nerd in high school myself. I saw a need for groups and clubs to "catch" students who were not involved with any sports, band or other extra curricular activities. Giving every student an opportunity to belong to a school club is not only great for school culture, but has a positive and long lasting impact on the students themselves. When students see an adult with the same interests as them and who "gets" them, it helps their social and emotional growth.

Though esports is a club team, I hold my students to the same academic eligibility requirements as regular sports teams. I work with students to help and encourage them to maintain their grades to remain eligible. Esports was really the only thing that kept a couple of my students engaged in high school at all. This past fall my Mario Kart team made it to the final 4 of the MI state championship! The team would have not made it without the kids. The kids would have not made it without eSports!

Like most teachers probably, pay off debt. However I would also like to invest some of the prize money back into my school's STEAM programs. I want to expand the esports and drama programs. Bring back our robotics club. I want to see the ELA team, Forensics team and Quizbowl teams all be set up to be successful.
